Hi, I’m Carola!

I grew up surrounded by art: my mom has attended the Art Academy School in Carrara, my hometown in Italy, and my father has always been a passionate hobbyist photographer.
As far as I can remember I’ve always loved to draw and paint and when my dad, for my ninth birthday, gifted me with my first camera, an old analogic Minolta, I discovered a deep passion for photography too.
I’ve always been attracted by the human face, the expressions, and the emotions that it evokes, so I started photographing people and drawing and painting portraits, first with charcoal and then oil painting. It became a way to express myself and let out emotions I didn’t know how to express in words.
Nevertheless, at the age of 18, I chose a completely different path and put aside my love for art and my beloved camera.
Fast forward to about 20 years later, a family, a new country, new opportunities, a new begin… After almost one year, the time necessary to get used to our new life in the Netherlands, I enrolled to a professional photography course, bought a new camera, and started painting again.
Today, I can proudly say that I’m a professional photographer with a deep passion for art.
In my work I always start with an idea, a concept that I develop and finally translate into images, whether they be photos, paintings, or mixed media pieces. I take inspiration from the books I read, mainly fantasy, from music, movies and everything around me that has a story to tell.
As when I was a kid, I lean toward the human being, I love colors, deep emotions, contrast and, why not, a little bit of madness.
